If you were driving down the highway and saw mountains composed of layered strata, you could be confident that?

a. batholiths or laccoliths. b. extrusive igneous rock. c. sedimentary rocks. d. a shield volcano.|||C. Sedimentary rocks, because sediments are deposited in layers.|||C. is the most obvious answer, as sedimentary rocks are deposited in generally flat layers which can then be uplifted to form mountains.

I think you can safely say that A and D are least likely though...





In reality, I don't think you can truly "be confident" of C without knowing the background of the area you are driving through first!
